Chapter 5: Backlash and Betrayal
The woman no gree, dey press the matter: “Na him carry you go backyard, comot your pant, abi?”
She push the girl small, her hand strong, voice loud. Other women dey look, dey murmur, some dey nod head, dey support am as if dem dey for market.
Her voice wicked, the small girl start dey cry. “Mummy, sob, uncle no do am.”
The little girl eyes wide, she hold her doll, tears dey pour. She talk low, but her voice dey lost for all the shouting.
My guy no fit hold am again. “The pikin don talk say no be him. Why you dey force am? See as she dey fear. Na so you dey treat her for house?”
He point at the pikin, voice don rise. Other people begin look the woman suspicious. "Madam, allow pikin talk, no dey force her. Small girl no dey lie for this kind thing, but you dey shout pass her."
Police wey dey near us look like say e wan talk, but e hold himself.
E cross him arms, dey watch. Station don dey hot, wahala fit burst any time.
The woman no gree, she hold the pikin shoulder tight, dey look her eye. “Talk am! Tell mummy! Na him touch you?”
She press the girl shoulder, her voice dey tremble. Some people begin dey uncomfortable for the way she dey force the pikin.
The girl dey cry, voice low inside her sob. “Sob sob sob, na uncle, he touch me.”
Her voice no loud, but she just repeat wetin the mama dey talk. Tears no gree stop, hand dey shake. My heart dey break for her.
