Chapter 6: The Glutton’s Secret

← Prev

So Haley leads me out of Silver Heights Palace, heading to Maple Heights Palace where the King and Queen are.

An attendant leads me in, and as soon as I enter the hall, I see the King and Queen on their thrones.

At banquets, I always avoided the crowds and just ate, never saw the King and Queen up close.

From afar, they looked very dignified.

After I bow, they come down to speak with me.

That’s when I finally get a good look at them.

The King of Heaven, Harrison, looks a bit like Julian, but older and not quite as handsome.

He strokes his small mustache and says, “Savannah has entered my Heavenly Palace, we’re family now, so relax.”

Funny, I’ve already finished my bow and now you tell me this.

I mumble a couple polite words, then sneak a look at Queen Victoria.

Oh my god, she’s absolutely stunning!

Next to her, Julian doesn’t even compare!

“Savvy, now that you’ve just married into Heaven, you must be unaccustomed to many things. Today, I’ll take you around. You can talk to me about anything.”

The Queen is beautiful and gentle. She holds my hand, chats with me for ages, then takes me to the back hall for a feast.

“Thank you, Mom. Mom, you’re so beautiful.”

I adapt fast. Right now, I’m clinging to the Queen’s sleeve, pretending to be shy.

The Queen laughs, “I heard you’re quite the expert on food. These are dishes I specially asked the God of Food to prepare. Savvy, try them.”

What, God of Food?!

Sorry, beautiful Mom, your sleeve can’t compete with food.

After eating and drinking my fill, I go out with the Queen, only then suddenly remembering something.

I’m a new bride visiting my in-laws—why isn’t my husband with me?

It’s like the King and Queen are pretending Julian doesn’t exist.

Don’t they know he left last night? Or are they covering for their son?

The Queen seems to notice something and asks, “Savvy, Julian didn’t come home on his wedding night. Are you upset?”

I just shake my head. "No complaints, Your Majesty."

She sighs, pulling me to sit under a maple tree. “Actually, you don’t know. Julian has trained with his Father God since childhood, rarely staying in the Heavenly Palace. Sometimes, I only hear he’s back, rush to Silver Heights Palace to see him, but he’s already gone. Even your wedding, he only returned right before the banquet.”

Hearing this, I’m really surprised.
