Chapter 4: Sinking Into Darkness
In my coma, it felt like I was dragged underwater and then yanked back up, the suffocating, wet sensation filling my whole body.
It was as if I’d been thrown into the Savannah River at midnight—my lungs burning, water closing over my head, every sense dissolving in panic. I tried to fight back, but it only made the punishment worse from the other side.
Breathing, consciousness, even my body—all seemed to be tangled together. My thoughts scattered, slipping through my fingers like sweet Georgia rain, until even the taste of my own sorrow faded into black.
The darkness pulled me under, cold and unyielding. Somewhere above, I heard my name—just once—before everything faded to black.
