Chapter 6: Killer Dey Change Game

The next bodies wey dem find, some bite mark for chest, or belle don open, all the inside organ disappear.

Wetin go make person bite dead body? For street, old mama dey talk, "This na pure witchcraft."

Strangely, the eyes for these ones remain.

Killer dey change pattern. Musa dey notice every small detail, dey write for im big jotter.

That one mean say the killer don dey change style.

E dey show say the person sabi say police dey try follow am, so e dey try confuse dem.

Dem find body of 14-year-old boy, this time, police see real evidence.

People rush to scene, dem no fit believe wetin eye see. The whole community gather.

Dem stab the boy more than 70 times, cut off im private part.

Even the heartless among police men dey shake, some dey vomit, some dey cry quietly.

Forensic people find man body fluid inside the boy.

At last, real evidence. Lab people dey happy, dey shout, "Oga, we fit catch this person now!"

That one mean say the killer don dey disgrace the body with im own body.

E mean say, apart from killing, e dey do another kind evil.

Police happy—now dem fit know the killer blood type.

All the officers dey rush, dey call family, dey promise say "justice go happen soon."

Dem quickly arrest youth gang.

For Naija, once body show, na area boys dey suffer am first. Police no dey waste time.

E mean say? No be one person, but group?

Some people dey talk, "Na cult, na group!" but Musa no gree.

Na lie. Musa no fit take am again, quarrel with im oga.

Im voice loud for meeting, "We dey waste time! Leave these boys, focus on real clue."

Musa shout, "The killer never be group. Na one person, and the person get serious mental wahala!"

The room hot, ceiling fan dey turn slow, sweat dey drip for every officer face as Musa knock table.

Other officers shock, but e no send.

As police dey busy dey arrest scapegoats, dey fight, the killer "upgrade" again.

Killer no dey fear, e dey do am for fun. E dey send message say "Una no fit catch me."

From 1984, the killer just dey kill anyhow, no rest.

For town, people dey say, "Make government call army!" Fear don catch everybody.

For the eleventh body, dem find body fluid for her cloth, but nothing inside her.

E mean say killer dey switch pattern again. Musa dey record all the change.

That one mean say, after e kill her, e use her body for im own pleasure.

For Naija, dem go say, "Na only mad person fit do this kind thing." Elders dey forbid am.

By end of that dry season, police don find 24 dead bodies. The killer don move from five people for one year, to now almost one person every two weeks.

Market women gather for junction, pour salt and palm oil, dey shout, "Any evil spirit, pack and go!" Some say, "Na only God fit catch this devil."

Police pressure too much. Dem arrest more people—everybody confess. But Musa know, none of them be the real killer.

Musa dey tire. Im wife dey beg am, "No go die for another person wahala." E no dey listen.

Apart from arresting people anyhow, police no get plan.

Dem just dey run up and down. No real strategy. Even senior officer don lose hope.

Forensic experts from Abuja lab find two body fluid sample for scene—both na AB blood type.

Na rare blood type. Musa dey happy, e reason say, "At least this clue go help us." For Naija, AB no too plenty.

That one serious, because e mean say all the suspects wey dem get, none match the blood type.

E show say, police dey wrong from day one. Musa dey keep list of AB blood type for area.

Facts prove say Musa dey right, but e no fit happy, because killer still dey waka free.

Who sabi pass no matter, until we catch devil, nobody go sleep.

But as Musa dey reason the case for midnight, e no know say devil dey plan next move just two streets away.
