Chapter 1: The Last Foster
I am the last Foster. My family bought a thousand years of peace with blood and magic—now, that peace is burning.
A thousand years ago, the Fosters gave everything they had so the world could know peace. Their sacrifice held the darkness at bay for generations.
But a thousand years later—
The President’s golden kid looked out over Foster County and grinned. “Coach, I really like this Foster land. Can you build a mansion for me here?”
The President’s face shone with fondness. With a laugh and a joke, he torched the whole damn county, like it was nothing but kindling.
He called my little brother a monster. He didn’t just kill him—he had the nerve to ask what I could do about it. What could I do?
I stared at the Foster River. They have no idea. This river never held back monsters—it’s held back the storm inside me all along.
