Chapter 6: The Side Character Fights Back
In contrast, Mr. Chen was much more on script, opening with the classic line: “I think this woman is interesting. Two hundred thousand a year, how about it?”
Elena, worthy of being the female lead, glared at Mr. Chen:
“You think money is everything? Just because you have money, you think you can do whatever you want?”
I blurted out, “Sorry, with money you really can do whatever you want. Mr. Chen, do you need anyone? I can—mmph mmph mmph.”
With my mercenary attitude, Elena looked even more pure and untainted.
Mr. Chen’s eyes were practically on fire as he looked at Elena.
Elena looked at Ethan, aggrieved.
Ethan looked like he wanted nothing to do with her, sticking close to me.
The relationships were too complicated. Just as I wanted to observe further, I suddenly noticed a strange line floating above Elena’s head—
“Abnormality detected, one last reset opportunity remaining, reset?”
Before I could react, Elena had already chosen “Yes.”
The next second, the world spun.
When I came to, I was holding a rag, wiping the stair railing.
The door opened.
Back to the day Ethan first brought Elena to the estate.
I stared blankly, looking up to meet Ethan’s cold gaze.
But the next second, it was like ice cracking on a lake. Ethan suddenly blinked at me quickly.
While I was still in a daze, the stern-faced butler looked at Elena with satisfaction. “You are the first woman Mr. Morgan has brought home.”
Wait, that’s my line!
Elena, on the other hand, looked a bit coy, then glanced at Ethan. “Mr. Morgan, didn’t you say you were just bringing me back to change clothes?”
Only then did I notice that not only Ethan, but Elena’s coat also had red wine stains.
Thinking of her falling into Mr. Chen’s arms, I could picture it in my mind.
Ethan said expressionlessly, “Come to my room.”
Elena was stunned for a moment, pursed her lips, her face full of pride and stubbornness. “Mr. Morgan, please behave. I came back with you to change clothes, but I’m not the type to do anything for money or status…”
Before she could finish, Ethan frowned and pushed her aside, looking straight at me.
Camila’s voice stopped abruptly.
I stood up and saw another strange line appear above Elena’s head—
“Warning!”
But before I could see clearly, the line flashed and disappeared.
Ethan didn’t even spare Elena a glance. He snapped his fingers. “Butler, take her to the guest room to change.”
Soon, only Ethan and I were left in the hall.
He seemed to want to say something, but quickly clutched his head, his face struggling. “Riley, who is that woman? Why would I…”
Ethan has always liked to call me by my full name since we were kids. He said my name sounded nice.
“To carry hope, to aim high.”
It’s from some old poem, meaning lofty ambitions.
Actually, that’s not it. My original name was just Riley Lane.
Because the couple who left me with the Morgans always wanted a boy.
It was Ethan who gave me a new name.
The first time we met, he came down the spiral staircase in a white shirt, walking toward me against the light, reaching out to me when I had nothing.
The young, high-spirited boy in my memory gradually matured, his features becoming sharp and handsome.
I remembered that day Ethan looked down at me, his voice trembling as he pleaded:
“Riley, help me.”
“Don’t let the plot control me.”
My heart softened, and I gripped his hand in return. “Let’s talk in your room.”
But Ethan, blushing, shyly dragged me inside.
A six-foot-three CEO, in a suit and blushing. The scene was kind of funny.
I held back a laugh. “Alright, tell me what’s going on.”
Ethan took a deep breath. “I just feel like something’s off. Especially with that woman…”
As he spoke, Ethan got more and more agitated:
“I clearly put down the glass of red wine, but she still managed to spill it on me.”
“I told her to pay. She cursed me. Said I was disrespectful just because I had money.”
“Three thousand for a custom suit, eight hundred for a bottle of cabernet. I only asked her for two grand, and she cursed me?”
“Worse, I actually brought her home to change clothes?”
“I lost so much, and I still have to pay for her new clothes?”
