But as e be, life get as e be! The kind thing wey fit make person just sit for evening breeze, dey look sky dey reason say ehn, this world no balance at all. Sometimes na the small small things for life dey turn head upside down, I swear.

After the heroine change her mind, she waka come under heavy rain—but Auwalu no gree see am! The kain rain wey fit wash spirit from body, yet she no send, just dey waka like person wey dey carry heavy for chest. Her wrapper dey soak, sand dey stick for leg, cold dey bite bone, but she still waka dey go. But Auwalu lock door, put ear for pillow, like say he no even know say somebody dey outside.

She always dey see me as spare part! As if say na only when tyre burst dem dey remember say spare dey boot. Like that day for market, when she give me her old slippers—“manage am, e still good!” I don tire sef, but wetin man go do?

I no fit help am, I just dey pity the guy small. Na true, sometimes e be like say na only me dey see how Auwalu dey suffer, the small pain wey dey hide under him strong face.

He just smile talk say, "No wahala. Shey I still get you?" Him voice calm, like person wey dey try cover wound with wrapper.

Me: "..." I just dey look am, mouth no gree open. Wetin I wan talk? My mind dey fly.

He no know o! He dey feel say e sure for am, but na so life dey play person.

He never even enter my list of options! For my mind, I dey shout, "Auwalu, abeg shift! You never reach that level at all."
