Chapter 2: Welcome Home, Arjun
I brought the fox spirit home, grinning from ear to ear!
Neighbours peeked from their balconies, one aunty even clutching her pallu tighter, eyes wide—probably thinking I’d brought home a movie star. My old maid Kamla stared openly as I led him up the stairs—if she told my mother, tomorrow I’d get at least five missed calls! On the way, I tried to break the ice. “What’s your name?”
“Arjun.”
Even his name sounds like a CEO!
I eagerly reached out my hand. “I’m Priya. From now on, I’m your boss.”
I’ve seen my friends with their fox spirits—they all call them ‘Boss’ and it feels amazing!
But Arjun turned his head away, exuding an aloof aura. “I’m not like them.”
The way he said it, it was as if I’d insulted his ancestors. Out of nowhere, a chill ran down my spine.
I quickly changed tactics, still holding out my hand. “Then let’s be friends from now on!”
He looked down at my hand and snorted lightly. “No physical contact. If you touch me, I’ll go back immediately.”
I ground my teeth. It’s just a handshake!
What an attitude!
But can this ‘get rich’ thing really work?
So I snorted right back. “Who knows if you can actually make people rich? Maybe Uncle Dev just wanted to get rid of old stock—last piece sale, hai na?”
I wanted to provoke him, see if I could crack that cold exterior.
Didn’t expect him to just glance at me—
Thirty percent disdain, thirty percent mockery, forty percent icy indifference!
I quickly looked away.
Foxes really are born with charm! Just meeting his eyes made my heart race…
I suddenly felt like an extra in a Karan Johar film, the one who gets dazzled and forgotten. Uff, Priya, control yourself!
