Chapter 10: The Last Glance
After class, I threw away the trash and went back to my seat. Caleb actually turned around and reached out to me:
"Give me your papers."
"Do you know the key points from last period?"
As he spoke, he took my trash bag and put it in his own little trash can.
"Sit down, I'll explain it to you."
I looked down at him and coldly said, "Do I need you?"
Caleb froze.
After a moment, he lowered his voice and said, "Last night I—"
I slammed my SAT prep book on the desk and turned away.
At noon, the homeroom teacher suddenly moved my seat to the farthest corner of the classroom.
The gym rep who switched seats with me was delighted to find a big box of chocolates and a full set of math notes covered in key points at the new desk—all secretly prepared by Caleb.
He hugged Caleb's shoulders, thanking his good buddy.
Caleb's eyes dimmed. He clenched his fists but said nothing.
All afternoon, he kept glancing back at the corner countless times.
And I didn't spare him a single extra look. But that didn’t stop his eyes from searching for mine—over and over, like he was hoping I’d forgive the past.
