Chapter 3: Rumors and Realities
"Did you hear? Caleb called the class president 'Aubrey.' What's going on with those two?"
The class buzzed with gossip. Someone in the back started whispering like it was breaking news on TikTok.
"Don't be ridiculous, Caleb and I are just good friends!" Aubrey laughed.
She sounded so breezy, like she was starring in a Netflix romcom. "Alright, enough, focus on the problem," the teacher said, trying to restore order.
Aubrey and the teacher didn't seem to mind the teasing at all.
Only Caleb looked at Aubrey with a tenderness that couldn't be faked.
Honestly, they did seem perfect for each other—a top student and a genius beauty.
Mint meets vanilla—a match made in heaven.
They could discuss tough math problems together, watch movies without subtitles. Sometimes I'd see them at the local AMC, laughing in the lobby while I hovered by the popcorn machine, pretending not to watch them.
I couldn't keep up with their quick minds at all.
All I could do was clumsily try to please Caleb in little ways.
