Chapter 5: Family Showdown
Derek and I returned home.
Mr. Smith looked sincere but sullen, ready to pull Caleb away.
I slapped his hand away.
“I remember my father-in-law’s last name is Yu, not Smith. I don’t randomly acknowledge fathers, and I don’t like people teaching me rules everywhere.”
Mr. Smith’s fake smile almost cracked.
He said elegantly and sincerely, “Ma’am, it was my fault. Thank you for your guidance.”
He was polite, making me look aggressive.
But I didn’t care.
Derek had just held a grand wedding with me. If we divorced right after, it would disgrace the Yu family.
So I’ll do as I please.
Since I don’t care about Derek, I can live very well.
I pulled Caleb onto the sofa, crossed my legs, and looked at him with a half-smile.
“Mr. Smith, you weren’t so polite a few days ago. Should I remind you? You told me to know my place, to please Mr. Yu, to secure my position first, and said you’ve been here twenty years, you are the Yu family’s rules. I don’t think even my father-in-law would talk to me like that. I thought marrying into the Yu family was marrying into a wealthy family, but I didn’t expect the boss to have two fathers, tsk tsk.”
I scolded Mr. Smith, but my eyes were on Derek.
Derek’s face was so dark it could drip water.
He’s the kind of guy who wins fights by saying nothing at all—just letting the silence choke you.
On the way back, he was clearly furious, but said nothing.
His ex-wife was afraid of him, adored him, would rather wrong herself than make him unhappy. He didn’t need to speak to get the life he wanted.
But not anymore.
I’m not into his cold act.
If he doesn’t talk to me, he’ll just die of anger.
Mr. Smith was sweating.
“Mr. Yu, I never said that. I just wanted ma’am to get used to life here quickly. I never said I am the Yu family’s rules.”
“Then check the security cameras. Let’s see if I remembered wrong or you did.”
Mr. Smith’s face didn’t change, but his eyes flashed with panic. He pressed his lips tight, then suddenly gave in.
“If ma’am says so, I must have done wrong. Sorry for upsetting you. Ma’am, I’m sorry.”
“Saying it like that makes you look aggrieved and me unreasonable. Derek, your wife is being labeled as unreasonable and power-abusing, and you just watch? If so, I’ll take my son and move out. I’m not welcome here, have to follow the Yu family’s rules. Before marrying, you didn’t tell me the butler was in charge, and even your wife had to listen to him. If you’d said so, you could have married the butler, why marry me? Tsk.”
I looked disdainful, rolling my eyes.
Caleb looked at me with admiration, wanting to laugh but not daring to. When he looked at Derek, his smile collapsed. When he looked at Mr. Smith, he rolled his eyes involuntarily.
I almost laughed, ruffled his little head, pulled his hand and counted his fingers—so soft.
Derek’s face was iron dark. He looked at me coldly and said, “Check the security footage.”
The footage was checked. The assistant hurriedly only checked the tapes from my first day at the Yu house.
They didn’t see Mr. Smith say “I am the Yu family’s rules,” but saw Mrs. Lewis return to the house, let Mr. Smith out of the time-out room, and the two kissed.
I widened my eyes and covered Caleb’s eyes.
Mr. Smith’s face turned ashen.
Mrs. Lewis was embarrassed and angry.
Derek said coldly, “You’re both fired.”
Tsk...
You’re both fired.
The boss thinks firing is enough.
But I’m much more vengeful.
“Wait, keep watching.”
They saw Mr. Smith and Mrs. Lewis plotting how to deal with me and Caleb when we returned. The key line was:
“Rachel Song is a rich heiress, but we still trained her like a dog. This one’s a gold digger, let her pretend for a few days, she’ll suffer soon enough. Let’s tolerate her for now.”
Rachel Song was Caleb’s mom, the Song family’s heiress, a good match for Derek.
