Chapter 7: Promoting Corruption
On the twentieth day of canceling morning meetings, I finally remembered someone.
The current Deputy Secretary of the Treasury, Mr. Yates.
He was infamous for corruption in later years. It’s said he embezzled a full billion dollars—an all-time record.
Impressive! Truly admirable!
I flipped through the Treasury’s accounts brought by Linda.
I found that this year’s tax revenue from California was $300 million less than last year.
Not long ago, I overheard some White House staff gossiping. They said Mr. Yates recently bought a new five-bedroom mansion in Georgetown.
That’s it, no mistake.
This Mr. Yates must be a certified, top-level corrupt official! He must be promoted! Promoted again and again!
I quickly ordered Linda to summon Mr. Yates for me.
She rolled her eyes but complied, muttering, “Washington’s a circus lately.”
