Chapter 6: The Night It All Ended
Three years ago, according to the original script, the grand finale was just around the corner. The system and I had both given up.
With my manipulation, Caleb had seized power, Rachel’s affection was maxed out, and Derek had become a powerful official stirring up the city council. My people in city hall were gradually purged, my power stripped away, and even the cleaning staff stopped doing their jobs for me.
Late at night, the big house was empty—no security, not even anyone to turn up the heat. It was truly a case of "out of sight, out of mind."
Maybe my inner grumbling was too loud, and the system couldn’t sleep, so it spoke up: "Still not asleep at this hour?"
Wrapped in my comforter, I lay on the bed, eyes wide open, staring at the ceiling. I replied in my mind, "After busting my ass for a decade, about to lose it all—how am I supposed to sleep?"
The system woke up fully: "Once your world is finished, I can finally take a long vacation."
I suddenly felt a bit anxious: "Hey, when’s the final act coming? What if I accidentally stab Caleb to death?"
"Relax, just stab away. Even if you die, the main guy won’t."
I snorted, about to say something, when the system suddenly cut me off.
"It’s coming, it’s coming."
"What?"
"The main guy is bringing people."
I understood immediately—the grand finale was tonight. Caleb had just learned from a staffer that my birth mom killed his mom, and he was coming to take revenge.
I remember glancing at the digital clock on my nightstand, the red numbers glaring back at me—2:47 a.m. My mouth was dry. I pressed my palm to the cool glass of the window, watching headlights snake up the drive. The world was about to flip, and I had front row seats—willing or not.
