Chapter 3: A Hand in the Dark
Just then—
A strong arm snaked around my waist from behind. I stiffened, startled, before I realized who it was.
Before I could react, I was pulled into the shadows.
A voice, tight with annoyance, spoke right by my ear:
“I haven’t even told you yet.”
“What that guy said has nothing to do with me.”
His breath was warm against my cheek, and for the first time in a long while, my heart skipped a beat for reasons that had nothing to do with Ethan Price. For a split second, everything felt new—like maybe, just maybe, the world was opening up for me again.
For the first time in years, hope didn’t feel like a joke.
