Chapter 5: Out-Kissing the Queen
I choked out, “I do.”
Officiant: “Now, will the groom please kiss the bride.”
“Do we have to act that part too?” I blurted.
Vivienne gazed at me, big eyes shimmering, looking almost hurt: “Cass, you don’t want to kiss me?”
I scrambled: “No, I was just afraid you wouldn’t want to.”
She sighed: “For the sake of the performance, let’s do it.”
Vivienne was so professional!
Compared to her, I felt like a total amateur.
Fine, let’s kiss!
I gritted my teeth and leaned in. A little voice in my head screamed, “Steal her breath!”
What was I doing? I was supposed to be her number-one hater! How did I end up here?
I got so flustered I forgot to breathe, face burning red.
“Relax, breathe!”
Vivienne’s gentle reminder snapped me out of it.
I broke away, gulping air.
Clap, clap, clap!
Someone applauded.
It was Mason Grant.
Why was he here instead of with his own team?
Was he checking up on his girlfriend?
If he saw me kissing Vivienne, I was toast.
I immediately ducked behind Vivienne like a spooked rabbit.
Pretending to check my phone, I was really eavesdropping.
Ding! Suddenly, I got a text.
[Congrats on completing your first trolling task—out-kiss the queen! System reward: $10,000 has been deposited.]
A bank text followed:
[Your account ending in 3214 has received $10,000. Balance: $10,000.11.]
This system was legit!
Being a professional troll had its perks. Honestly, this was the most fun I’d ever had earning a paycheck.
“Hey, Vivienne, why aren’t you working with Noah?”
