Chapter 6: Hunted at the Border
The stationed Lord faced off with Galen, tense—he was alone, but it didn’t matter. He was that dangerous. "Why did the Prince break our barrier?"
Galen ignored him, his voice booming. "Maeve, I know you’re here. Come with me, or I’ll kill them all."
Trying to flush me out? I stayed silent.
The commander barked, "Find out who Maeve is!"
"Prince, who is she? We’ll help you look," the Lord said.
Galen finally looked at him. "Healer."
A healer? The royals started buzzing.
I quietly slipped on my cloak, blending into the crowd.
Galen suddenly frowned. "Gone?"
A patrol said, "I think the healer we just let in was her."
"Yeah, I heard that too."
"Where’d she go? She was just here..."
Galen turned toward them. I tried to run deeper into the enclave, but felt his gaze zero in on me. The cloak was useless! I was caught! Suddenly, my feet left the ground—I was airborne. Next thing I knew, Galen had me by the collar.
In a blink, we were back in the bedroom—the same spot where I’d knocked him out.
He gently wiped the dirt from my face.
I glared. "How’d you know I was there?"
I wasn’t surprised he could see me, but with so many border posts, how’d he know which one?
He just stared at me.
Annoyed, I huffed, "I was the one who poisoned you. Go ahead, kill me."
Still nothing.
His silence made me even madder. "Say something!"
He finally looked up. "How about the coronation in two days?"
