Chapter 6: Fire, Fame, and Family
After a long day, I was dozing off in Autumn’s arms when—bang!—a loud crash startled me awake. The noise was deafening, and smoke billowed from the kitchen tent. I sat up, heart pounding. Autumn patted my back.
“Daisy, did that scare you?” I shook my head and looked toward the smoke—it was the kitchen. Lila had blown it up!
Flames licked at the edges of the tent, and the crew rushed in with fire extinguishers. “Mama, is Aunt Lila blasting off to space?” I puffed up my cheeks and made a popping sound.
The crew burst out laughing, and Autumn scooped me up.
She twirled me around, her laughter ringing through the camp. For a moment, all the drama faded away. After that, Lila learned her lesson.
After that, Lila learned her lesson and didn’t dare slack off openly anymore—but she was always last in every task. The crew barely paid her any attention.
At the end of the season, the show held a popularity vote for the parent-child survival king. I clung to Autumn’s hand, heart racing.
“Auntie, you’ll definitely win this time!” “Don’t say that, Ryder—you’ll make others sad!”
She tried to sound humble, but her eyes sparkled with hope.
I put my hands on my hips, chin up, glaring at Lila. I stuck out my tongue, making a silly face. Autumn laughed, ruffling my hair. I let my childish mouth run wild.
She hugged me close, whispering, “Thank you, Daisy.” “Mama doesn’t care about any title—she just wants to be Daisy’s mom!” Her words were soft, but they filled me with warmth.
Her warm smile moved me. As someone who’d never known a mother’s love, I finally felt cherished. I didn’t want to miss a second of this moment.
I threw myself into her arms, calling out for Mama. When the votes came in, everyone thought Lila would win.
But in the end, Autumn took the crown! The announcement echoed through the camp, and the crew erupted in applause. Autumn’s eyes filled with tears, and I hugged her tight.
She’d successfully reinvented herself—not just as a fragile flower, but as her true, most charming self. The internet exploded with praise.
“My queen is amazing! Her old interviews are so fun to watch!” The hashtags trended for days, and Autumn’s fanbase grew by the thousands. After the show, Lila dropped to Z-list status.
She cupped my face, tapping my nose fondly. Her words were fierce and determined. I believed her with all my heart. I nodded excitedly, gripping her hand.
We made a pinky promise, sealing our vow with a giggle.
